Participate in the first GOP presidential debate

Modified: 07/28/2009

Turn up the heat on Republican presidential candidates:

On Thursday, May 3, the Republican presidential debate will take place right here in our Golden State—just weeks after the Supreme Court upheld the Bush Federal Abortion Ban, which trumps California’s pro-choice laws. Here’s what you may not know: Brownback, Giuliani, McCain, and Romney all applauded the Court’s decision, which undermines Roe v. Wade’s protections for women’s health.

It’s time to turn up the heat! Send in and vote for a choice-related question to the candidates through Politico.com to ensure that choice is a top issue in the debate. California is the most pro-choice state in the union—and these candidates need to hear from our pro-choice majority.

Why is the Supreme Court ruling especially bad for California’s women? Our state constitution’s greater protections for women’s health and the right to choose are now trumped by a Bush-backed anti-choice law. This decision opens the door for further political interference in personal, private medical decisions.
