Our Successes
  • Worked with Vice Mayor Annie Campbell Washington and City Attorney Barbara Parker to pass an ordinance making Oakland the second city in the nation to ban deceptive ads by crisis pregnancy centers, and sponsored the Reproductive FACT Act (AB 775), passed by the California legislature in 2015, requiring pregnancy centers to post a notice about the availability of public programs that provide family planning services or notify clients that they are not licensed medical providers. The Reproductive FACT Act is the first statewide law in the nation mitigating the impact of anti-choice crisis pregnancy centers.
  • Gathered more than 27,000 petition signatures for enforcement of AB 775 in partnership with UltraViolet and Courage Campaign.
  • Conducted an undercover investigation of anti-choice crisis pregnancy centers in California, exposing their harmful and deceptive practices and leading to groundbreaking state legislation
  • Educated the public and put crisis pregnancy centers on notice through activities like a social media day of action with comedians dispensing fake CPC advice and an ad campaign targeting an anti-choice conference in San Diego
  • Worked in conjunction with Sen. Fran Pavley and cosponsors Planned Parenthood Affiliate of CA and Essential Access Health to pass a bill requiring health plans to cover a 12-month supply of contraception dispensed at once (SB 999)
  • Endorsed and worked to elect pro-choice candidates at the federal and state level, including Senator Kamala Harris
  • Mobilized our members to support pro-choice candidates in the 2016 election cycle through canvassing, phone banks, and rallies
  • Mentioned for our work in more than 40 local and national new outlets, including The New York Times, Mother Jones, and Huffington Post
