Are Your Legislators Pro-Choice?
Legislators' scores are based on their votes on the following legislation from the 2008-2009 legislative session: AB 98 (De La Torre) – Maternity Services. Existing law provides for the regulation of health insurers by the Department of Insurance. Under existing law, a health insurer that provides maternity coverage may not restrict inpatient hospital benefits, as specified, and is required to provide notice of maternity services coverage. This bill would require specified health insurance policies to provide coverage for maternity services, as definied. AB 119 (Jones) – Health care coverage: pricing. Existing law, the Knox-Keene Health Care Service Plan Act of 1975, provides for the licensure and regulation of health care service plans by the Department of Managed Health Care and makes a willful violation of that act a crime. Existing law prohibits health care service plans from charging premium, price, or charge differentials because of sex, but makes an exception for differentials based on specified statistical and actuarial data. This bill would eliminate that exception with respect to contracts issued, amended, or renewed on or after January 1, 2011. This bill contains other related provisions and other related laws.
