NARAL PRO-CHOICE CALIFORNIA - THE NEW PRO-CHOICE FORCE IN STATEWIDE POLITICS
NARAL Pro-Choice America Introduces New Chapter: NARAL Pro-Choice California
San Francisco, CA – NARAL Pro-Choice America, the leading national advocate for personal privacy and a woman’s right to choose, announced today that it is expanding its presence in California by forming a new chapter -- NARAL Pro-Choice California. This chapter will bring NARAL Pro-Choice America’s national resources to the nation’s largest state to ensure a continued strong leading pro-choice force in statewide California politics.
Kate Michelman, President of NARAL Pro-Choice America, said: “California’s national influence is unquestioned, so maintaining the state’s strong pro-choice orientation is a national priority. It is vital that we intensify our efforts by bringing new energy and resources into our fight to protect a woman’s right to choose in California. We are going to be extremely active in mobilizing and organizing California’s incredible pro-choice majority to stand up against the anti-choice movement in Sacramento, educate the public about important state issues, and fight for pro-choice leaders at the state and national levels.”
NARAL Pro-Choice California’s activities will include grassroots organizing, political and legislative advocacy, and research and educational activity. The focus will be on California’s needs in particular but the impact will undoubtedly be felt nationally. Rising from the solid foundation of the state’s former affiliate, CARAL, the momentum is already in place for the new chapter to make a difference. Together, Californians and NARAL Pro-Choice California will work to protect and promote a woman’s right to choose on both the state and national levels.
Michelman further announced today that Amy Everitt will serve as the new chapter’s State Director. Everitt, a native Californian, has a wealth of experience in both the California and national political arenas, most recently serving as the Political Director at EdVoice, a statewide education advocacy organization. Prior to returning to California, Everitt was the Regional Political Director for the West, and Midwest at the Democratic National Committee.
