NARAL Pro-Choice America Endorses Francine Busby for Congress
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE MARCH 28, 2006 NARAL PRO-CHOICE AMERICA ENDORSES FRANCINE BUSBY FOR CONGRESS Nation’s Leading Pro-Choice Group Weighs in for San Diego Special Election
Washington, DC – Today, NARAL Pro-Choice America, the nation’s leading advocate for personal privacy and a woman’s right to choose, announced its endorsement of Francine Busby for California Congressional District 50. This seat was formerly held by anti-choice Rep. Randy “Duke” Cunningham, who resigned his position in November 2005 after confessing to accepting bribes.
In a joint statement, Amy Everitt, state director of NARAL Pro-Choice California, and Nancy Keenan, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America, praised Busby as a leader in protecting women’s freedom and privacy:
“Voters in the 50th District are fortunate to have the opportunity to elect Francine Busby. She is a pro-choice leader who will represent the values of the residents of North San Diego County with honesty and integrity. Californians are tired of the divisive attacks on a woman’s right to choose, that’s why we need Francine Busby in Congress. She will support commonsense measures to prevent unintended pregnancies and reduce the need for abortion. It’s time for Congress to unify behind better access to birth control, honest, realistic sex education and improved family-planning services. We look forward to working closely with Francine in the years to come.”
