Lawmakers and Community Leaders Commemorate Roe v. Wade
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE January 22, 2007 Lawmakers and Community Leaders Commemorate Roe v. Wade Day-long event to focus on political process to protect choice; features remarks from winning Roe v. Wade attorney Sarah Weddington NAPA, California – NARAL Pro-Choice California will host the Napa and Sonoma Valleys Roe v. Wade Anniversary Luncheon and Action Summit on February 1 at the Meritage Resort in Napa, CA. Sarah Weddington, the winning attorney in Roe v. Wade, will deliver the keynote address. “Even 34 years after Roe v. Wade, access to reproductive healthcare is threatened in the Napa and Sonoma Valleys. Santa Rosa’s only hospital-based abortion provider is closing and Napa pharmacists have gone on record stating they would refuse to dispense birth control,” said Amy Everitt, state director of NARAL Pro-Choice California. “Now more than ever, it is critical for the community to use the political process to protect choice.” Among the luncheon’s confirmed attendees are Assemblywoman Noreen Evans, Napa Mayor Jill Techel, and St. Helena Councilmember Eric Sklar. Featured speakers include Sarah Weddington; Nancy Keenan, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America; Amy Everitt, state director of NARAL Pro-Choice California; and David Mermin, partner in Lake Research Partners. Workshop presenters include Sean MacNeil, Chief of Staff for Senator Pat Wiggins and Kristin Beard-King, Principal of Political Solutions (partial list).
