NARAL Pro-Choice California announces its newly-formed PrivacyPAC; California’s largest pro-choice organization gears up for the 2008 elections

SAN FRANCISCO, California – Today, NARAL Pro-Choice California announced the formation of its PrivacyPAC—a political action committee dedicated to electing pro-choice candidates at the state and local level.

“In 2006, California voters reaffirmed their commitment to the values of freedom, privacy, and personal responsibility by electing pro-choice candidates in the state legislature and Congress, while defeating a dangerous anti-choice ballot measure for the second consecutive year,” said Amy Everitt, state director of NARAL Pro-Choice California. “Californians sent a clear message that divisive anti-choice attacks on a woman’s right to choose will not be successful in our state. PrivacyPAC will work to ensure that Californians’ pro-choice values and ideas are represented in the state capital. We are committed to electing pro-choice candidates who will unite behind commonsense measures to prevent unintended pregnancy and reduce the need for abortion, while protecting women’s access to safe, legal abortion.”

The PAC’s formation comes on the heels of NARAL Pro-Choice California’s political organizing successes – including the defeat of Props. 73 and 85. The organization is targeting traditionally conservative regions of the state to reach out to pro-choice voters and elected officials. Earlier this month, an activist training in the Napa Valley attracted more than 200 participants interested in learning how to use the political process to protect choice.

PrivacyPAC is a state-registered non-partisan political action committee dedicated to electing pro-choice candidates to state and local office. Assistance to candidates includes organizational endorsements; financial support; and in-kind contributions such as grassroots and membership mobilization, enhanced campaign activity, and independent expenditures.

NARAL Pro-Choice California, which includes more than 150,000 member activists, is the political arm of the pro-choice movement. The group works daily to elect pro-choice candidates, promote pro-choice policy, and mobilize pro-choice voters.
