FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE October 16, 2007 Leading Pro-Choice Group Releases Ratings of California Legislators NARAL Pro-Choice California rates majority of both the Senate and Assembly as pro-choice on sex education, family communication and privacy SAN FRANCISCO – Today, NARAL Pro-Choice California released its annual legislative scorecard rating California senators and assembly members on choice-related legislation for the 2006-2007 session. The group seeks to spark greater voter awareness of California legislators’ voting records on choice-related policy. NARAL Pro-Choice California reports 71 pro-choice members of the legislature, with 48 in the Assembly and 23 in the Senate. The group also reports 46 anti-choice legislators, with 31 in the Assembly and 15 in the Senate. Three legislators were scored as mixed-choice, with one in the Assembly and two in the Senate. “We are pleased that California’s legislature is representative of our Golden State’s pro-choice majority,” said Amy Everitt, state director of NARAL Pro-Choice California. “Californians are tired of divisive attacks on a woman’s right to choose. Medically-accurate sex education, improved family communication, privacy, and healthy childbearing are common ground issues we can all agree on.” NARAL Pro-Choice California, which includes more than 150,000 member activists, is the political leader of the pro-choice movement in the state. The group works to elect pro-choice candidates, promote pro-choice policy, and mobilize pro-choice voters. Contact: Tamara Murray, 415.890.1020 ext. 207
