NARAL Pro-Choice California Honors St. Helena Councilmember Eric Sklar

"As we learned from Senator Robert Kennedy – each good deed is one small ripple towards creating a tidal wave that can beat back injustice in our communities," said Sklar. "Speaking out against the Meritage Resort was one little thing I could do to help a very big, worthy cause." In November 2007, the Meritage Resort in Napa refused NARAL Pro-Choice California’s request to hold its second annual choice summit at the hotel. The hotel’s owner claimed that the organization’s mission conflicted with his personal beliefs. In response Councilmember Eric Sklar proposed a resolution to prevent city funds from going to the Meritage Resort, saying it had broken its promise to serve as a community meeting space. "Pro-choice activists in the state of California are fortunate to have local leaders like Eric Sklar who are willing to stand up for our pro-choice beliefs," said Amy Everitt, state director of NARAL Pro-Choice California. "The Meritage Resort’s decision to refuse our business is further motivation to activists across to state to get involved in protecting our pro-choice values of freedom and privacy."
