Pro-Choice Activists Mark 35th Anniversary of Roe v. Wade in the Napa and Sonoma Valley

On January 22nd, residents of the Napa and Sonoma Valleys came together for NARAL Pro-Choice California's Roe v. Wade Anniversary Luncheon and Action Summit to mark the 35th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the landmark U.S. Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion in 1973. Over 150 activists of different ages, backgrounds, and communities joined in for a day of education and activism. Edward Mendoza, who attended with his wife and 13-year-old daughter, said "We hope bringing her here will help her understand what the right to choose is all about. What she learns today will be critical for the rest of her life." Keynote speaker Dr. Susan Wicklund shared stories of bravery and conviction from her twenty years providing desperately needed abortion care to women in the rural Midwest, despite facing endless protests and death threats from anti-choice radicals. State and local experts gave participants tips and strategies for responding to local choice issues, including declining access to contraception and abortion care.
