SF Board of Supervisors to vote on CPC ordinance

On Monday, September 26, the San Francisco Board of Supervisors City Operations & Neighborhood Services Committee held a public hearing on Supervisor Malia Cohen’s Pregnancy Information Disclosure and Protection Ordinance.

San Franciscans showed up in great numbers to support the ordinance. It would require honest advertising by so-called "crisis pregnancy centers” (CPCs) that use deceitful marketing practices to target pregnant women seeking comprehensive medical advice.

The full Board of Supervisors is expected to consider the ordinance later this month.

"It is clear that San Francisco residents want to protect women from deceptive advertising practices of those who prey on women facing unplanned pregnancies,” said Amy Everitt, NARAL Pro-Choice California’s state director.  "When women decide where to get care for an unplanned pregnancy, they should receive truthful and honest information about their options. This ordinance would hold accountable those organizations that seek to deceive women in difficult situations. I encourage all residents of San Francisco to write their supervisors and urge them to support this important piece of legislation.”
